FORNESSA Moves Forward

FORNESSA Members working in MalawieBased on a meeting in Blantyre, Malawi, the Forestry Research Network of Sub-Saharan Africa (FORNESSA) moved forward on developing an online presence for information sharing of forest and tree-related research in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Scientists from FORNESSA institutions agreed to focus their efforts around four thematic topics:

  • Forests and Climate Change
  • Forests and Poverty Alleviation
  • Forest Policy and Governance
  • Forest Utilisation/Products/Trade
Each of these topic areas has Scientific Coordinators that will develop a synthesis of information to help introduce the topic and it’s current state of knowledge.  Also included will be lists of past and ongoing research projects, a list of African scientific experts in the field, and links to full text research publications from FORNESSA member institutions.

Updates, about FORNIS and links to the development Web site should be available in autumn 2009.  We welcome and encourage comments and suggestions from interested parties on how we can make this site more useful.
